50 Recommended Reads for...

30th Sep 2022

We are working to raise the profile of reading across the school and also increase children’s experiences of reading for pleasure. School has invested a considerable amount of money in new resources to support this goal.

One way we are doing this in school is by setting each year group a ‘50 recommended reads challenge’. This challenge consists of challenging each child to read 50 books from a list specific to their year group.

From Friday 23 rd September, your child will be bringing home a reading book that they have chosen from their list. They will keep a record of the each book they have read and they will be challenged to read all 50 recommended books for their year group by July 2023. The book they bring home can either be read by a child to an adult or an adult can read it to their child.

To clarify, your child should be bringing home each day (and returning to school the next day):

- Their home school diary.
- A reading book that is matched to their reading level.
- A ‘reading for pleasure book’. This book will either be a school library book or a book
from the 50 recommended reads. This is a book that the child has chosen
themselves and one they can read to an adult or have read to them.

Thank you for your support with increasing children’s enjoyment in reading. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ask myself or your child’s class teacher.
